Asmir Jakupovic

Asmir Jakupovic, born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, received his training at the Savo Balaban Conservatory in Prijedor, at the Department of Music Theory at the University of Banja Luka in 2011/12 and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) since 2012. He also studied composition with Prof. Herbert Lauermann and Prof. Detlev Müller-Siemens, music theory with Prof. Gesine Schröder, orchestration with Dr. Ertugrul Sevsay, attended master classes with Gyula Fekete and Veli Matti Puumala, the ISA Summer Academy with Yann Robin and Francesco Filidei and worked for Prof. Gerald Resch. Since 2014, he has produced a series of compositions that have been performed in Austria, Hungary, Bosnia, Croatia, Germany and Switzerland. In 2018 he received the promotional prize at the composition competition of the town of Siegburg and a prize at the Prof. Dichler competition, in 2020 he was a finalist at the Ö1 Jazzstipendium. As an author, Asmir Jakupovic worked for the Lexikon Orchester of the Laaber publishing house and wrote a study on the careers of female composers and interpreters in the 18th and 19th centuries in France and Germany as part of the research project Compositrices et Interprètes of the French-German Working Meeting Vienna. Important projects in recent years also included the Contemporary Composition Workshop Vienna – Helsinki – Budapest in 2015, with a final concert at the Franz Liszt Academy Budapest, as well as participation in the U Stream Fest of the Ukrainian Cultural Days Vienna, in 2015/16 the artistic-scientific project »Grete Trakl – Sister: Möndin.« A Counterfactual History of Composition at the Institute for Composition and Electroacoustics at the mdw as well as a research trip to Berlin, in 2018 the participation as pianist in Georg Nussbaumer’s Atlas der gesamten Musik und aller angrenzenden Gebiete as part of Wien Modern as well as a collaborative composition in a project about the Schoenberg student Natalie Pravossudovich in 2019. Since the 2023/24 season, Asmir Jakupovic has been a répétiteur at the Vienna State Ballet.
