Buy tickets
Ticket sales for a calendar month always start two months in advance. For example, the entire month of March goes on sale on January 1st. You can buy tickets online, by telephone or at the Bundestheater box offices.
Pre-order tickets
For all performances that are not yet on sale, you can pre-order tickets at any time up to three days before the start of sales – also online, in writing or in person by submitting your order form.
How to get tickets
Ticket types
In addition to regular tickets, we also offer subscriptions and cycles where several performances can be purchased as a package.
You can find more about our other offers like wheelchair tickets or cooperations on our discounts page.
Apart from our performances, it is also possible to experience the Vienna State Opera as part of a guided tour.
Gift cards
Our gift cards are available at the Bundestheater box offices, in our ticket shop or via phone (only with credit card) under +43 1 513 1 513.
It is generally not possible to return tickets that have already been paid for, e.g. due to illness, inability to attend or changes to your travel plans. Tickets cannot be exchanged or returned in the event of changes to the cast, non-admission due to late arrival or non-functioning subtitle tablets. If an event is canceled without replacement or if another performance than the one originally booked is scheduled instead, tickets that have already been purchased will be refunded. Further information on this can be found in our general terms and conditions.
If you are unable to attend a performance, you have the option of offering your tickets to other guests for resale via our commission exchange.
If you are unable to attend a performance, you have the option of list your tickets for resale to other potential guests. If your tickets are successfully resold, you will be refunded the purchase price minus a resale fee of 10% (minimum 3€).
How to list tickets for resale:
- 1. Log into your account online via our webshop.
- 2. Go to “My Opera” then to “My Tickets”.
- 3. Click on the dropdown “Your Tickets” for the event in question that you would like to list for resale
- 4. Click on “Resell seats”.
- 5. Now select the exact seats you wish to release. Here you have the option of listing only individual seats from your booking or the entire order for resale.
- 6. Confirm the process.
As soon as your tickets are on resale, the seats in question will become available on all our sales channels. If the resale is successful, you will receive confirmation of the sale by e-mail. A refund of the purchase price (minus the commission fee) will only be made in the event of a successful resale. You can also call up the current status of your resales at any time under "My Opera" - "My resales".
Should you wish to use your tickets yourself after all, you can remove the tickets from resale via "My Opera" - "My resales" before they are resold.
Tickets that have been resold via our commission exchange lose their validity.
Customers who have purchased online or over the phone by credit card will automatically receive a refund to the credit card they used to make the purchase.
Customers with a SEPA direct debit mandate will have the amount automatically credited back to their account.
The proceeds for tickets paid for in cash, by credit card at the box office or by bank transfer will be credited to the Bundestheater customer account. This credit can be redeemed at the next payment at the box office.
If you have any problems with our online ticket store, please contact our service hotline: +43 1 51444 2222 (Monday to Friday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.), or send an e-mail to tickets@bundestheater.at.
Only children or young people up to their 16th birthday may sit in seats for which a discounted children's ticket has been purchased!
If the child is unable to attend, the surcharge for an adult ticket can be paid at the box office up to 30 minutes before the start of the performance at the evening box office and the seat can be taken.
Misuse (an adult sitting in a children's ticket seat) will result in a ban from the house, claims for damages and will be reported to the police by the State Opera.
