The Vienna State Opera mourns the death of KS Peter Seiffert

The internationally sought-after tenor died on April 14, 2025.

The tenor was closely associated with the Haus am Ring - his international career took him to London, Paris, Berlin, New York, Bayreuth, Salzburg, Barcelona and Tokyo, among other places - and he appeared here on one hundred evenings in numerous roles and celebrated countless triumphs.

He made his Staatsoper debut in 1984 as Matteo in Richard Straussʼ Arabella, followed by Hans in The Bartered Bride, Erik in The Flying Dutchman and Lohengrin. He also remained true to the Wagner repertoire at the Vienna State Opera: he was heard as Walther von Stolzing(Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Siegmund(Die Walküre), Parsifal, Tannhäuser and Tristan - he sang the latter role at the premiere in 2013, among others. He also appeared as Tamino(Die Zauberflöte) and Max(Der Freischütz), and sang Turiddu(Cavalleria rusticana) and Otello in the Italian repertoire. His most frequently sung state opera role, with 25 appearances, was Florestan in Beethoven's Fidelio. in 2013, Peter Seiffert was awarded the title of Austrian Kammersänger.
