Start of rehearsals for Bellini's »Norma«

Vincenzo Bellini's Norma - one of the central bel canto operas - has not been heard at the Vienna State Opera for more than ten years, and there has not been a staged performance of this opera for more than 40 years.

Yet this work is bursting with exceptional music: not only has the aria "Casta diva" become an icon of Italian opera, the entire work sparkles with musical gems and is a corresponding centerpiece of the operatic repertoire. In February, there will finally be a new production: Cyril Teste - the director of the new Salome production in 2023 - will stage it, while Michele Mariotti will be the musical director. Federica Lombardi, one of the most beautiful soprano voices of the younger generation, sings the title role, while Pollione is played by Juan Diego Flórez. In addition, Ildebrando D'Arcangelo returns to the Staatsoper as Oroveso and Vasilisa Berzhanskaya returns as Adalgisa.
