New Year's Concert 2025 of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
Saison 2024/2025 |
On January 1, 2025, the Vienna Philharmonic's traditional New Year's Concert will ring in a musical year that will celebrate one personality in particular: the waltz king Johann Strauss (son), who was born 200 years ago. Riccardo Muti will be conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Musikverein for the seventh time.
For the ORF television production, which will be broadcast worldwide, the British choreographer and director of Ballett Zürich Cathy Marston created the dance interludes for the first time. The costumes were created by Anglo-Irish designer and director Patrick Kinmonth. Once again, two special locations form the backdrop for a waltz and a polka by Johann Strauss (son): Elena Bottaro, Davide Dato, Sonia Dvořák, Masayu Kimoto, Alice Firenze, Victor Cagnin, Rashaen Arts and Kristián Pokorný from the Vienna State Ballet ensemble dance the "Acceleration Waltz" op. in the unique ambience of the Südbahnhotel am Semmering, which opened in 1883 - a jewel in the history of Austrian architecture and tourism. 234. Sveva Gargiulo, Sinthia Liz, Laura Cislaghi, Natalya Butchko, Trevor Hayden and Andrés Garcia Torres will perform the polka fast "Entweder - oder!" op. 402 in front of the imposing steam locomotive 12.10 at the Vienna Technical Museum. Michael Beyer is responsible for the television direction.

During the concert break at around 11.50 a.m., the film "2025 - A Strauss Odyssey", created by Barbara Weissenbeck, takes a look at the jubilarian Johann Strauss (son) from an unearthly perspective.
