»Ariadne auf Naxos«: Lise Davidsen instead of Anna Netrebko in the title role

Anna Netrebko's role debut in the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos, which was planned for January 21st 2025, unfortunately has to be postponed to a later date: Due to health problems in December and the resulting lack of preparation time for the start of rehearsals at the beginning of January, Netrebko has been forced to cancel her performances as Ariadne at the Vienna State Opera in January 2025.

Anna Netrebko: » I am sad that I will not be interpreting this incredible new role but, because of the time unexpectedly lost, I am unable to prepare it to the standard I demand of myself. I am sorry to disappoint everyone who planned on attending. Since beginning to study the role of Ariadne, I have fallen in love with it and looked forward to debuting it. Bogdan Roščić and I are working to find a new period as soon as possible for me to sing it in Vienna. «

For the four performances (January 21, 25, 28, and 31, 2025), a renowned artist has been engaged: Lise Davidsen will be singing Ariadne – with this role, the internationally acclaimed soprano made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in 2017.

However, we are very fortunate to be able to bring Lise Davidsen, perhaps the most important new voice in the German repertoire in recent years, back to Vienna as Ariadne.«

In Ariadne auf Naxos, under the baton of Cornelius Meister, Michael Spyres will perform as Tenor/Bacchus, Kate Lindsey as Komponist, Sara Blanch as Zerbinetta, and Adrian Eröd as Musiklehrer; actor Bernhard Schir will make his house debut as Haushofmeister.
