The Vienna State Opera is looking for a

HR - MANAGER / DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL TECHNOLOGY, from 01.03.2025, full-time

Responsibilities

  • HR responsibility for the technical staff of the Vienna State Opera (from on-boarding to off-boarding, currently approx. 350 employees)
  • Management of a team of several people
  • Application of the collective agreements and company agreements for the technical staff of the Bundestheater Group
  • Controlling of (additional) services incurred and their approval in the course of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Preparation and invoicing of guest performances and external events as well as for the Opera Ball
  • Application and further development of software adapted for technical staff for personnel master data management, duty scheduling and working time recording
  • Interface to the technical management and payroll accounting (Shared Service Center of the Bundestheater-Holding)

Requirements

  • Relevant degree or HAK with additional HR qualification
  • Several years of professional experience, management experience an advantage
  • Willingness for further training
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to analyze and prepare data as a basis for decision-making for the Head of HR/Legal/Organization and/or management
  • Social skills, communication skills and ability to deal with conflict
  • Excellent written and spoken German and very good English skills

The Vienna State Opera is looking for an

Intern for the Official Circle of Friends of the Vienna State Opera, from mid-February to mid-May, 30h/week.

 

TASKS:

  • Support with membership renewals for the 2025/2026 season
  • Administration and support of current memberships in the JetTicket ticket sales system (processing of new registrations and membership renewals)
  • Administration of the web store of the Official Circle of Friends
  • Supporting members of the Circle of Friends by telephone, e-mail and at events
  • Administration of entries, donation deductibility and registrations for Circle of Friends events
  • Creation and dispatch of welcome packs
  • Filing and day-to-day office tasks
  • Updating the website (Official Circle of Friends section)
  • Proofreading newsletters, accompanying letters and brochures
  • Research activities

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent German and good English skills
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • High customer and service orientation
  • Experience with JetTicket software is an advantage

The collectively agreed salary for interns is € 1,306.87 gross per month based on full-time employment.

Technical management

The Wiener Staatsoper GmbH, Audio-Video Technology Department is looking for a video technician/engineer for 20 hours/week starting January 1, 2025.

For new productions, the job includes the entire production process from the technical conception, cooperation with the video designers, assistance in the creation of the media (organizational and, if necessary, content-related), as well as - as a main focus - the programming of the media servers and feeders, the operation of these feeders, the cameras, the live mixing of the signals according to artistic specifications during rehearsals and performances. You will work closely with the other trades in the opera company.

During repertoire performances, you will reproduce the sequences you have worked out and play performances.

Installation, rigging, setting up and dismantling of projectors, LED walls, cameras, radio links, monitors, etc. are all part of your remit.

Other aspects of the collaboration are

  • instructing other people involved in the processes.
  • Documentation and archiving of this work on the productions
  • Maintenance and servicing of the technology
  • Recordings for the archive and in-house distribution

As a member of the audio-visual technology department, you will also be deployed across departments on a case-by-case basis.

Requirements for you:

To be able to work successfully, you need a good, completed technical or university degree. Very good knowledge of current video, media and transmission technologies, cameras and, in particular, current media server systems.

We expect you to have a sense of responsibility, reliability, prudence and a structured way of working.

Professional experience in event technology, particularly in relation to complex projections and LED technology, is highly desirable. We require good knowledge of video production, editing and animation. In addition, you will need sound general IT knowledge and, in particular, knowledge of network technology and control protocols. Concrete experience as an operator or in broadcasting is important.

Musical understanding, knowledge of sheet music or playing an instrument are a great advantage!

Time flexibility and a willingness to work irregular hours are essential.

To strengthen our make-up department we are looking for
Make-up artists (m/f/d), occasionally as evening help, with immediate effect

Tasks during rehearsals / performances:

  • Supervision of rehearsals and performances
  • Making drawings (design sketches) and models
  • Fitting and adjusting wigs, hairpieces, beards and sideburns for the actors/singers
  • Fitting and adjusting bald heads, partially bald heads and hairy bald heads
  • Applying different types of make-up; natural, contemporary, advantageous, etc.
  • Make up parts of the face (e.g. wrinkles, scars, abrasions) and body parts (e.g. wounds, injuries, body deformations) or create them from modeling clay
  • During a production, make-up and make-up changes for the actors/singers on an ongoing basis
  • Applying body paint (bodypainting)
  • Removing make-up from actors/singers at the end of the working day
  • Providing cosmetic care for performers/singers (e.g. applying skin creams and lip balm)
  • Conduct team meetings
  • Properly clean the equipment used and store it in the storage room

Education and training:

  • Completed apprenticeship as a hairdresser and wig maker (stylist) or
  • Completed apprenticeship as a make-up artist or
  • Diploma in make-up artistry or
  • Make-up artist / make-up artist

Remuneration is in accordance with the 1999 collective agreement for technical personnel, and amounts to € 64.06 gross per shift (4 to max. 6 hours) (subject to income tax only), and is a daily, marginal employment relationship with only accident insurance.

Stage technicians for the stage/upholsterer and machine operator departments

The positions are to be filled immediately on a full-time basis.

Tasks:

  • Supervision of rehearsals and performances of musical theater productions
  • Set-up, conversion and dismantling of decorations for rehearsals and performances

Training - for the respective department:

Stage/Decoration department:

  • Completed vocational training in a woodworking profession or
  • Completed vocational training as a painter and coating technician or
  • Completed vocational training as an upholsterer / bedding manufacturer

Machinists department:

  • Completed vocational training in a metalworking profession or
  • Completed vocational training as a mechatronics technician

Requirements:

  • As a male applicant, completed military or civilian service
  • No criminal record
  • Very good knowledge of German
  • Very good physical constitution and resilience
  • High level of commitment
  • Manual dexterity and technical understanding

From the 2025/2026 season, the Vienna State Opera is looking for a

Solo repetiteur (full-time 40h)

Tasks:

  • Musical rehearsals and accompaniment, also independent direction of ensemble rehearsals
  • Accompaniment of musical and scenic rehearsals
  • Assumption of keyboard duties in the State Opera Orchestra
  • Accompaniment of auditions, ensemble matinees, etc.

Requirements:

  • at least 5 years of relevant professional experience as a solo repetiteur (opera), preferably in a repertoire company
  • Confident and competent pedagogical approach to singers
  • very good pianistic skills
  • extensive knowledge of the opera repertoire, ideally with a focus on French and Italian repertoire
  • Good language skills in German, Italian and French (French as a native language is an advantage)
  • Experience with keyboard duties in the orchestra (piano, celesta, fortepiano, harpsichord, bell piano, preferably also organ)
  • Experience in stage music conducting is an advantage

The following must be prepared for the audition:

1. Round:

  • G. Bizet: "Carmen" Smugglers' Quintet
  • W. A. Mozart: "Le Nozze di Figaro" Finale Act 2

2. Round:

  • G. Puccini: "Bohème" 1st act or G. Verdi: "Otello" 1st act

  • A recitative from one of W.A. Mozart's "Da Ponte Operas" (on fortepiano)
  • A complete opera of your choice: Faust by C. Gounod, Manon by J. Massenet or Werther by J. Massenet

Additionally:

  • sight-reading
  • Work rehearsal with a singer

The audition is expected to take place on 27.01.2025 (1st round) and 28.01.2025 (2nd round) at the Vienna State Opera.

The Vienna State Opera will not cover any travel and accommodation costs incurred due to participation in the audition.

This position is based on full-time employment with a monthly salary (14x per year) starting at 3.800,-. There is a willingness to overpay depending on qualifications and experience. (The minimum salary according to the collective agreement is € 2,504.48 gross per month based on full-time employment)
