WITOLF WERNER was born in 1978 and first studied piano, cello and singing. From 1999 he started orchestral conducting in Cologne, and attended master classes in Trier and Budapest and assisted Michael Gielen with the SWR Sinfonieorchester. After first engagements in Osnabrück and Dortmund, he became répétiteur and assistant in the 2005/2006 season to the GMD Peter Kuhn at the Theater Bielefeld; and from 2008 to 2013 he worked as assistant, head of music and Second Kapellmeister. He was accepted into the “Richard Wagner Trust” and was a scholar of the Deutsche Bank Trust (Akademie Musiktheater today). As an opera conductor, he has directed, among others, The Cunning Little Vixen, the world premiere of the opera Jo-Ion, as well as Alice in Wonderland and others. In 2010/2011, he was elected as “Conductor of the Year” by the critics survey of the Welt am Sonntag. He has worked, among others, with the Wiener Symphony orchestra, the Bergische Symphoniker and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen and has made guest appearances at the theatres Solingen/Remscheid, the Staatstheater Darmstadt and in Basel. Aside from his theatre engagements, he always has time for young people and amateur ensembles. He has also made a name for himself as a pianist and lied accompanist with numerous concerts at home and abroad. Since the 2014/2015 season, Witolf Werner has been the director of the stage orchestra of the Wiener Staatsoper and aside from stage music also conducts a number of children’s opera premieres as well as concerts, like Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf.
