Thomas Johannes Mayer
Baritone THOMAS JOHANNES MAYER studied piano, flute, singing, music pedagogy as well as history, philosophy and German philology. In addition to concert and lieder performances, he was repeatedly engaged at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Opéra national de Paris, Théâtre La Monnaie in Brussels, Berliner, Hamburger and Münchner Staatsoper, in Stuttgart, Amsterdam, Tokyo and Budapest, and he has performed at the festivals of Salzburg, Bayreuth, Bregenz and at Wiener Festwochen. Having sung more than 80 different operas, his focus is on the major roles by Wagner, Verdi, Strauss and Mozart. He also gained wider artistic notice with contemporary oeuvres. Most recently, he has sung Amfortas in Bayreuth, Mandryka at Bayerische Staatsoper, Telramund at ROH Covent Garden, Jochanaan at Berliner Staatsoper. In the next months, he is planning to appear in Prague (Telramund), Zurich (Count Andrae Vitelozzo Tamare in Die Gezeichneten), Paris (the water goblin in Rusalka) and Antwerp (Macbeth). At Vienna State Opera, he has so far sung Wotan, Wanderer and Telramund.
