Teresa Sales Rebordão
Teresa Sales Rebordão is a Portuguese mezzo-soprano born in Lisbon. She began her musical training at the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa, where she studied singing with the renowned baritone Armando Possante. Her initial passion for the natural sciences led her to study biology at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. However, a transformative experience in her first opera role as Dido in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa made her realize that music was central to her life, prompting her to pursue a career as an opera singer. Since 2018, Teresa has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, where she graduated with honors in 2022 and is currently completing her Master’s in Music Theatre under Professor Claudia Kunz-Eisenlohr.
Since her operatic debut as Dido, Teresa has performed numerous roles, including Annio (La clemenza di Tito), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), La messagiera (L'Orfeo), and L'enfant (L'enfant et les sortilèges). In June 2022, she debuted as the Widow in Pasticcio Ombra Felice by Clara Hinterberger at the Theater Aachen. In 2023, she returned to the same theater to perform the role of Stewardess in Jonathan Dove’s Flight. In the 2023/24 season, she was featured again at Theater Aachen, this time as Frau Pfeil in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor.
Living in Germany has sparked Teresa’s deep interest in German Lied. She works regularly with Professor Ulrich Eisenlohr and Bernd Gaube, and has attended masterclasses with Ingeborg Danz, Erik Battaglia, Anne Le Bozec, Jan Philip Schulze, Burkhard Kehring, and Pauliina Tukiainen.
Teresa is the recipient of several vocal competition awards, including being a finalist at the prestigious Cascais Opera International Vocal Competition 2024, where she was awarded a contract with the International Music Festival Marvão, presented by Juliane Banse. At the Dutch Art Song Festival Vocallis, she won the Song Award in 2021 as part of a duo with Lidia Fittipaldi. Since 2020, Teresa has been a scholarship recipient of the Dr. Arthur Pfungst Foundation.
Starting in the 2024/25 season, Teresa Sales Rebordão will be a member of the Opernstudio at the Vienna State Opera.
