Stephanie Maitland

Stephanie Maitland is a Scottish contralto and was a member of the Opera Studio of the Wiener Staatsoper from 2020 to 2022 before joining the soloist ensemble of the Vienna Volksoper. During her time at the Staatsoper she debuted in a number of roles including Erste Magd (Elektra), Annina (La Traviata), Annina (Der Rosenkavalier), Ninetta (I Vespri sciliani), Mere Jeanne (Dialogues des Carmélites), Schenkenwirtin (Boris Godunov), Floßhilde and Roßweiße (Der Ring des Nibelungen), Blumenmädchen and Zweiter Knappe (Parsifal), Stimme von Oben and Sechste Solostimme (Die Frau ohne Schatten). She was also the alto soloist in the premiere production of Brahms' Liebeslieder and Liebeslieder Walzer with the Wiener Staatsballett. Also with the Wiener Staatsballett she was the alto soloist in the production of ‘The moon that wears a white shirt’ as part of the Ligeti essays. At the Volksoper, she has sung roles such as Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Page (Salome), Tisbe (La cenerentola), Frau Reich (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Suzy (La rondine), Martha (Iolanthe), Mary (Der fliegende Holländer) and Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte). She has worked with conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Philippe Jordan, Franz Welser-Möst, Omer Meir Wellber and Axel Kober.
Stephanie will be returning to the soloist ensemble of the Wiener Staatsoper for their 24/25 and 25/26 seasons with highlights including Penelope in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria.
