Mylla Ek

Mylla Ek studied textile design, art and scenography at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam and in her hometown Stockholm. Since 1998, she has worked closely alongside Johan Inger. For the Nederlands Dans Theater she has designed the set and costume designs for »Dream Play«, »So Now Then«, »Out of Breath«, »Pneuma« and »Empty House«, for the Cullberg Ballet »Hurry Slowly«, »Phases« and »As if« and the costumes for »Home and Home« and »Within Now«. At the Royal Opera Stockholm, she produced »Le Sacre« with Johan Inger.
Furthermore, she works closely with the choreographer Shintaro Oue and designed since 2000 numerous costumes and sets for him at the Korzo Theatre and the Cadance Festival The Gahue, the Théâtre Cirque Royal Brussels, the Israeli Opera Tel Aviv, the SITE Stockholm, the Saitama Performing Arts Center Kawaguchi and the New National Theatre Tokyo. In 2008, she created the stage and costume design for Mats Ek’s »Rättika«. This was followed in 2010 by the costume designs for his pieces »Den Andre« and »Ickea«, which premiered in Stockholm with Ana Laguna, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Niklas Ek. At the Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg she collaborated with choreographer Remus Şucheană on the world premieres of »Fantaisies« and »Symphonic Poem«. Mylla Ek works also as a freelance artist. An exhibition of Japanese textile design (»NoKiimo«) was shown in 2015 at the Eastern Museum Stockholm. Her stage and costume design for Vienna State Ballet’s production »Die Jahreszeiten« is her first collaboration with Martin Schläpfer and her debut at the Vienna State Opera.
