Michael Spyres is regarded as one of the world’s leading singers in his field. Born in Mansfield, Missouri, he began his studies in the United States and later continued at the Vienna Conservatory. The tenor first garnered international attention in 2008 as Otello (Otello by Rossini) at the "Rossini in Wildbad" Festival and as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
His extensive repertoire, encompassing 83 roles in 78 different operas and documented on numerous CDs and DVDs, spans from Baroque works through Mozart to the 20th century. He has particularly distinguished himself as a Bel Canto specialist and in French opera roles.
Recently, he celebrated significant successes as Siegmund (Die Walküre) at the Bayreuth Festival, Don José (Carmen) at the Liceu in Barcelona, Lohengrin in Strasbourg, Licinius (La vestale) at the Paris Opéra, and Manrico (Il trovatore) in Houston.
Upcoming engagements include Siegmund and Stolzing in Bayreuth, Jephta at venues such as the Teatro Real Madrid and Paris, as well as Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Florestan (Fidelio) at the Vienna State Opera.
