With a »dark, velvety« voice that is »touching, but also shows core and character« and a »stage presence that is second to none« (Das Opernglas), the young Austrian bass-baritone Michael Nagl is establishing himself on important stages around the world. In 2022, he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival as Papageno, followed by his house debut at the Theater an der Wien as Gobrias (Belshazzar), among others. Michael Nagl is a member of the Stuttgart State Opera ensemble, where his roles include Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Basilio in (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and the Ghost Messenger (Die Frau ohne Schatten). Recent guest engagements have taken him to the Semperoper (Figaro, Papageno) and the Konzerthaus in Berlin (Die sieben Todsünden). Future projects include engagements at the Glyndebourne Festival and the National Opera in Amsterdam.Born in Vienna in 1995, he received his basic musical and vocal training with the Vienna Mozart Boys' Choir and completed his vocal studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 2016. He made his stage debut in 2014 at the Schönbrunn Palace Theater as Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte). In recent years, he has sung at the Paris Opéra, at the Bregenz Festival (Donner in Das Rheingold), in Strasbourg, Nancy, at the Berlin Philharmonie and at the Vienna Musikverein.
