Michael Laurenz

Born in Halle an der Saale, Michael Laurenz began his musical career as a trumpeter, performing during his training with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and later as principal trumpeter with the Berliner Symphoniker. From 2006, he shifted his focus to singing and became a member of the Opernhaus Zürich’s opera studio from 2008 to 2010, subsequently joining its ensemble.

From 2018 to 2020, he was a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera. Since the 2020/21 season, he has been working as a freelance artist. Guest engagements have taken him to prestigious venues such as the state operas in Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich, the Salzburg Festival, the Paris Opéra, La Scala in Milan, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Theater an der Wien, and opera houses in Amsterdam, Geneva, Lyon, and Antwerp. He has also appeared at the Glyndebourne Festival, the Stuttgart Music Festival, and the Bregenz Festival.

His repertoire includes major roles such as David (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Loge (Das Rheingold), Mime (Das Rheingold, Siegfried), the Dancing Master (Ariadne auf Naxos), Aegisth (Elektra), Goro (Madama Butterfly), the Fool (Der Schatzgräber), and Josef K. (Der Prozess).
