Luka Kusztrich

Luka Kusztrich was born in Vienna in 1991 and received his first violin lessons at the age of eight from Juri and Eugenia Polatschek, among others. From 2008 he studied violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, first with Dora Schwarzberg and from 2012 with Gerhard Schulz. He also took part in training programmes with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and won several competition prizes. He was a soloist at an early age under conductors such as Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Mykola Dyadura and Oksana Lyniv. In 2017 he began as a substitute in the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. This was followed by temporary contracts in the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and, since 2029, an engagement in the Stage Orchestra. At the Vienna Volksoper he appeared as the Fiddler on the Roof (Anatevka) and the Gypsy Primate (Gräfin Mariza), while the tavern music in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck took him to the stage of the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival. As a member of the Vienna State Opera’s Stage Orchestra, in addition to his regular duties at the Haus am Ring, he also dedicates himself to children’s and youth opera, which has found a new home at NEST.
