Johan Reuter
Danish bass baritone Johan Reuter studied at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Academy of the Royal Opera in his home town of Copenhagen. He also participated in master classes with Ernst Haefliger, Anthony Rolfe Johnson and Richard Trimborn. He has been a member of the ensemble of Copenhagen Opera since 1996, where he sings a wide-ranging repertoire. In 2020, »Parsifal« is one of the operas on his schedule in Toronto. In 2021 he will appear in »Parsifal« and »Un ballo in maschera« in Copenhagen, as Dr Schön/Jack the Ripper (»Lulu«) in New York, and he will give his début as Telramund (»Lohengrin«) at the Wiener Staatsoper. In Naples and at the Berlin State Opera he has given guest performances as John the Baptist (»Salome«) and as Iago in a new production of »Otello« in Amsterdam. Future projects include the title role in »Wozzeck«, Hans Sachs (»Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«) and Barak the Dyer (»Die Frau ohne Schatten«). His most significant appearances in recent years have been in »Salome« at the Theater an der Wien, »Das Rheingold« under Vladimir Jurowski in Moscow, under Kent Nagano in Munich, in Berlin and at the Bayreuth Festival under Christian Thielemann, Wozzeck at Deutsche Oper Berlin and under Esa-Pekka Salonen in Dortmund and Los Angeles, Enescu’s »Oedipe« in Amsterdam and London, Hans Sachs in Beijing, »From the House of the Dead« in London, »Elektra« at the Wiener Staatsoper and in Munich, Barak in Budapest, Copenhagen, London, New York, Berlin, Zurich and Amsterdam, Henze's »Elegie für junge Liebende« at the Theater an der Wien, »Der fliegende Holländer« in Helsinki, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Berlin and Madrid, »Lulu« in New York and Copenhagen, a concert performance of Carl Nielsen's »Maskarade« in Amsterdam and on the stage in Copenhagen, »Die Walküre« in Toronto, »Nabucco« at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Braunfels‘»Szenen aus dem Leben der Heiligen Johanna« in concert performance at the Salzburg Festival, »Věc Makropulos« in New York under Jiří Bělohlávek and at the Salzburg Festival under Esa-Pekka Salonen, »Das Rheingold« and »Siegfried« under Adam Fischer in Budapest, »Tristan und Isolde« in concert in Berlin under Marek Janowski, »Die Zarenbraut« under Mark Elder, Theseus in the world première of Harrison Birtwistle’s »The Minotaur«, »Elektra«, »Salome« and »Wozzeck« (Warner/Harding) in London, »Arabella« in Vienna, »The Rake's Progress under Christopher Hogwood, and Gurlitt’s »Wozzeck« in Madrid, »Le nozze di Figaro« at the Theater an der Wien and in Berlin, »Macbeth« in Lisbon, »Zaïde« and »Alceste« under Ivor Bolton at the Salzburg Festival, Šiškov in Janáčeks »From the House of the Dead« under Marc Albrecht in Paris and Madrid, Wozzeck in Essen (Schaaf/Soltesz), »Don Giovanni« in Frankfurt, »Le nozze di Figaro«, Leporello (»Don Giovanni«), Kothner (»Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«) (Konwitchny/Metzelmacher) and Guglielmo (»Così fan tutte«) in Hamburg.
