Hélène Vergnes

Hélène Vergnes was born in France in 1988 and grew up in Munich. She studied costume design at the Duperré School of Art in Paris and worked for the artist Loris Gréaud and for performances by the London-based designer group Glitch Fiction. As a costume designer, she has participated in theatre, opera and contemporary dance productions at the Opéra de Vichy, the Théâtre de Belleville, the Théâtre de l'Athénée and the Center de Développement Chorégraphique in Toulouse and worked as a costume assistant in film (»Des vents contraires«, Paris) and theatre productions (»Meat«, Schaubühne Berlin). As a costume assistant at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg, she worked for dance productions by Ohad Naharin, William Forsythe, Hans van Manen and Hubert Essakow, among others, and created her own costume designs for the Ballett am Rhein’s »Young Moves« series and for Martin Schläpfer’s ballets »44 Duos« and »Cellokonzert«. In addition to her work as a costume designer, Hélène Vergnes is also a freelance visual artist, creating installations, performances and videos based on French texts. Traditional music and regional languages have a great influence on her work. In the 2020/21 season, Hélène Vergnes makes her Vienna debut with her costume design for Martin Schläpfer’s world premiere »In Sonne verwandelt«.
