French mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez is one of the rising stars of the opera world. After graduating from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, the young mezzo-soprano made her debut at the Opéra Bastille in Michael Haneke’s 2013 version of »Don Giovanni« (Zerlina) under the direction of Philippe Jordan. Ever since she has been invited to sing in many of the most renowned opera houses in the world. Nominated »Révélation Lyrique« at the »Victoires de la Musique 2011«, Gaëlle Arquez released her highly anticipated debut recording »Ardente Flamme« for Deutsche Grammophon in 2017. Gaëlle Arquez kicks off the 2019/20 season as Muse/Nicklausse in »Le Contes de Hoffmann« at the Vienna State Opera. The same role she also performs later at the Opéra Bastille. Besides that, she gives her house debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Cherubino in »Le nozze di Figaro«.Higlights in the 2018/19 season include Medea in Händel’s »Teseo« at the Theater an der Wien, Juditha in Vivaldi’s »Juditha triumphans« at the Dutch National Opera, Carmen at Royal Opera House and Bavarian State Opera, and role debut as Iphigénie in Gluck’s »Iphigénie en Tauride« at Théatre des Champs-Elysées. She has also performed at the base of Eifel tower on the Bastille day concert in Paris – one of the most important French celebrations, broadcasted live on Radio and TV. She gave a role debut as Guilhen at D’Indy’s »Fervaal«, performed in concert at Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier and sang one of her signature roles, Carmen, on the open-air stage at the Gstaad Festival. Her role debut as Carmen has been made in Barrie Kosky’s critically acclaimed production in Frankfurt in 2016. With the same production Arquez made her house debut at Royal Opera House, where she returned already two times. The role led her also to the Bregenzer Festspiele 2017. As Carmen she has also made a house debut in Teatro Real in 2017.  However, the repertoire of Arquez is very broad. In 2017/18 she also made her first appearance as Isolier in »Le Comte Ory« at Opéra-Comique in Paris and as Adalgisa in »Norma« at the Frankfurt Opera. In 2016/17 season Gaëlle Arquez made her debut at the Vienna State Opera under the direction of Marc Minkowski singing the title role in a new production of Gluck’s »Armide«. She also made her role debut in »Pelléas et Mélisande« and Serse for the Frankfurt Opera.  In concert, Gaëlle Arquez sang the title role of »La cenerentola« at the Beaune Festival and the »Poème de l’Amour de la Mer« by Chausson under the direction of Louis Langrée at Theatre des Champs-Élysées and the Concepción in »L'Heure espagnole« with the Bayerische Rundfunk. Gaëlle Arquez’s other recent performances include »Idomeneo« under the direction of René Jacobs at the Theater an der Wien, a production which was also taken to the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York in 2016, »Falstaff« and »L’incoronazione di Poppea« at the Opéra de Paris, Teseo at the Frankfurt Opera, »Così fan tutte« at the Bayerische Staatsoper, »Castor et Pollux« at Komische Opera Berlin, »La cenerentola at the Beaune Festival, »Cendrillon« at Opera de Lille.
