Friedemann Vogel

Friedemann Vogel is one of the outstanding dancers of his generation. After his ballet training at the John Cranko Schule in his hometown Stuttgart and at the Académie de Danse Classique Princesse Grace in Monte-Carlo he became a member of the Stuttgart Ballet in 1998 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2002. His extensive repertoire includes ballets by Balanchine, Béjart, Bigonzetti, Cherkaoui, Cranko, Forsythe, Goecke, Khan, Kylián, MacMillan, McGregor, Neumeier, Robbins and Schläpfer, among them also role creations.

Guest performances and tours with the Stuttgart Ballet have led him amongst others to the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Bayerisches Staatsballett München, Staatsballett Berlin, English National Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, Ballett Zürich, Béjart Ballet Lausanne, National Ballet of China, Tokyo Ballet, Korean National Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet and the Ballet de Santiago de Chile, Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinsky Theatre and the Mikhailovsky Theatre. In 2013, Friedemann Vogel made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in MacMillan’s »Manon«, followed by guest appearances at the Nureyev Galas in 2014 and 2015.

His numerous awards include in 1997 the Prix de Lausanne, the Prix de Luxembourg and the Gold Medal at the Eurocity Competition in Italy, the Erik Bruhn Prize (2002), the »Positano Premio la Danza – Leonide Massine« as Best International Dancer and the Danza&Danza Award as Best Dancer (2012), and the Prix MAYA (2016). In 2015, the state of Baden-Württemberg awarded him the title of »Kammertänzer«. In addition, Friedemann Vogel was named in several critics’ polls in the category »Best Dancer« and »Dancer of the Year« by the magazine tanz in 2010 and 2019. In 2020, he received the honour of »Outstanding Performer« at the German Dance Awards.

In 2020, the television production »Friedemann Vogel – Embodiment of Dance« presented a sensitive portrait of the dancer at the top of the ballet world.
