Diana Damrau

Since her stage début, soprano Diana Damrau has been a regular guest for 20 years at leading international opera houses and concert halls and prominent festivals. Her extensive repertoire covers the lyric and coloratura Fächer and includes the title roles in Lucia di Lammermoor (La Scala, Bavarian State Opera, Metropolitan Opera New York, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden), Manon (Metropolitan Opera) and La Traviata (La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Opéra national de Paris and Bavarian State Opera) and the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute (Metropolitan Opera, Salzburg Festival, Royal Opera House). The award of the professional status of Kammersängerin at the Bavarian State Opera (2007) and the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art (2010) give Diana Damrau a strong link to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she has appeared in new productions of Lucia di Lammermoor, The Tales of Hoffmann (all four female roles), Ariadne auf Naxos (Zerbinetta), Die schweigsame Frau (Aminta), The Magic Flute (Queen of the Night) and Rigoletto (Gilda). Other important appearances include La Traviata (Violetta), Der Rosenkavalier (Sophie) and Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Konstanze). Diana Damrau has sung her most important roles at the Metropolitan Opera New York, where she has appeared several times in international HD cinema broadcasts, and has seven major role débuts since her house début as Zerbinetta in 2005.  Highlights include the new productions of Rigoletto (Gilda), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina), Le comte Ory (Adèle) and Les pêcheurs des perles (Leïla). To date,, Diana Damrau has appeared twice at the opening of La Scala’s season: in 2004 at the reopening of the renovated house in the title role of Salieri’s Europa Riconosciuta and in 2013 as Violetta in the new production of La Traviata for the bicentenary celebrations. She regularly appears in contemporary operas. Iain Bell wrote the title role for her in his adaptation of Hogarth’s A Harlot’s Progress (Theater an der Wien 2013), and Lorin Maazel composed the two roles of the Drunken Woman and Gym Instructress for her in his 1984 (Royal Opera House 2005). Recently she sang in Maria Stuarda in Berlin and Zurich, La Traviata in Munich, Hamlet in Berlin und Barcelona, and Roméo et Juliette in Milan. Appearances at the Wiener Staatsoper include Ariadne auf Naxos, Der Riese vom Steinfeld, Die Entführung aus dem Serail (at the Burgtheater), and Manon.
