Daniela Sindram

Daniela Sindram is one of the leading mezzo-sopranos in the German-speaking area, and is greatly in demand at leading opera houses worldwide. Milestones in her career include the much acclaimed début as Kundry (Parsifal) at Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2016, her house début at the Metropolitan Opera in 2013/14 as Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) and at Milan’s La Scala as Nicklausse (The Tales of Hoffmann) in 2011/12, her critically praised role début as Adriano (Rienzi) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in early 2012, as Venus (Tannhäuser) at the Bavarian State Opera in 2012/13, and her début as Sieglinde (Die Walküre) in Toulouse at the start of 2018. In April, May and June 2019 she was performing the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos) at Milan’s La Scala. In the 2019/20 season, engagements followed at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde and Fricka (Die Walküre) at the Teatro Real in Madrid. Born in Nuremberg, Daniela Sindram studied voice in Berlin and Hamburg. As an ensemble member at Bremen’s Theater am Goetheplatz and the Mannheim National Theatre, she added roles to her repertoire such as Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Idamante (Idomeneo), Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), going on to add others such as Charlotte (Werther), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde), the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos), Fricka (Die Walküre) and Adriano (Rienzi). In 2002 Daniela Sindram made her first guest appearance at the Bayreuth Festival, subsequently singing Siegrune in Die Walküre and Wellgunde in Rheingold and Götterdämmerung.

Besides appearances at the major German stages, Sindram has frequently sung as a free agent at the Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro Real Madrid, Seattle Opera and elsewhere. Daniela Sindram’s extensive work as an opera singer is supplemented by regular appearances in concert and at Lieder evenings. Her repertoire covers almost all alto and mezzo partners in the oratorio literature and Lieder cycles by composers such as Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Mahler and Schönberg. Alongside Anna Netrebko, Daniela Sindram was a finalist in the category best female singer at the 2017 International Opera Award. She made her début at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2006, singing Octavian and Hansel.
