Christopher Maltman

The British baritone Christopher Maltman studied biochemistry at Warwick University and received his vocal training at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is the winner of the Song-Prize at the renowned Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Since then, his career has led him to all the big opera and concert houses. He has sung Don Giovanni at the ROH Covent Garden in London, at the Deutschen Staatsoper Berlin, the Salzburg Festival, the Bayerischen Staatsoper; Posa in Amsterdam; Papageno, Guglielmo, Förster, Marcello and Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London; Papageno, Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro),
Sid (Albert Herring) at the Glyndebourne Festival; Figaro (Barbiere), Papageno, Harlekin (Ariadne auf Naxos), Silvio (Pagliacci) at the New York Metropolitan Opera, the lead in Billy Budd at the Welsh National Opera, the Teatro Regio in Turin, in Seattle and in Frankfurt. Performances have led him recently as Don Giovanni in Berlin and Amsterdam, as Don Alfonso to Munich, and as Friedrich (Das Liebesverbot) to Madrid. At The Wiener Staatsoper, he gave his debut in 2011 as Schischkow in Aus einem Totenhaus and also sang Eugen Onegin, Figaro (Barbiere) and Prospero.
