German baritone Christian Miedl has gained an international reputation in the field of contemporary music, with world and national premieres of works by Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Eötvös, Ennio Morricone, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Luca Francesconi. Until 2011 he was a member of the ensemble of Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe where he sang roles such as Conte Almaviva (Nozze), Figaro (Barbiere), Guglielmo, Papageno, Onegin, and Donner, and introduced a Lied series. Since then he has become a sought-after interpreter of leading roles in modern operas, such as Prinz von Homburg (Henze), Kaiser von Atlantis (Ullmann), Achilles in Penthesilea (Schoeck), Valmont in Quartett (Francesconi), Malaspina in Luci mie traditrici (Sciarrino), or Son in Tree of Codes (Lim), roles which he sang in theatres such as Teatro alla Scala Milan, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Hamburg, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Lyon, Malmö, Frankfurt, Cologne, Bonn, Seattle, and the Spoleto Festival USA. This season he makes his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in Olga Neuswirth’s Orlando.
