Ain Anger has been a regular presence on the stage of Wiener Staatsoper since his house debut as Monterone (Rigoletto) in 2004, going on to sing more than forty roles there ranging from Dosifei in Mussorgsky’s epic Khovanshchina conducted by Semyon Bychkov and König Heinrich (Lohengrin) under Christian Thielemann to Philippe II (Don Carlos), Zaccaria (Nabucco) and Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), and was awarded the honorary title of Kammersänger by the Austrian government in June 2020. Ain Anger’s upcoming season includes his Metropolitan Opera debut as Pimen in a new production of Boris Godunov under Sebastian Weigle, returning as Gremin (Eugene Onegin) conducted by James Gaffigan. For Wiener Staatsoper he sings Commendatore in Barrie Koksy’s new production of Don Giovanni under Philippe Jordan and Philippe II in Don Carlos conducted by Franz Welser-Möst. Elsewhere Ain Anger sings Heinrich (Lohengrin) for Deutsche Oper Berlin, Méphistophélès (Faust) for Estonian National Opera, and in concert joins the Orquestra de Valencia as Hunding (Die Walküre).
