
Hawaiian baritone Jordan Shanahan made his operatic debut in 2002 as Silvio (Pagliacci) at the Natchez Opera Festival in the USA. His repertoire is highly diverse and includes key roles from Rossini, Donizetti, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Strauss, Bizet, Korngold, Verdi, and Puccini. Additionally, he is in demand for contemporary repertoire.
In recent years, he has gained international recognition for his charismatic interpretations of dramatic roles. In the 2024/25 season, he will perform Monterone (Rigoletto) at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Barak in a new production of Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Telramund (Lohengrin) at the Vienna State Opera. He will also make his debut in Portugal at the Casa da Música in Porto with Zemlinsky’s Lyrische Symphonie.
Furthermore, he will return to the Bayreuth Festival, where he will take on three roles: Klingsor (Parsifal), Kothner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), and Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde). His recent performances include Jochanaan (Salome) at the Royal Opera House in London, Donner (Das Rheingold) at Zurich Opera, as well as appearances at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, MÜPA in Budapest, the Bregenz Festival, Teatro Real in Madrid, Cologne, and Bayreuth.
