KURT RYDL comes from Vienna and studied in Vienna and Moscow. He makes regular guest performances on major stages and at the festivals in Bayreuth, Salzburg, Bregenz, Florenz, Verona, Munich und Glyndebourne. His repertoire includes over 100 roles of the German, French, Italian and Russian discipline. He gave his debut performance at the Vienna State Opera in 1976 as Ferrando (Il trovatore) and has since sung such roles as Colline (La Bohème), Pimen (Boris Godunow), Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo), Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Osmin (Entführung aus dem Serail), Rocco (Fidelio), Daland (Fliegender Holländer), Roger (Jérusalem), König Heinrich (Lohengrin), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Geronte (Manon Lescaut), Talbot (Maria Stuarda), Pogner (Meistersinger), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Titurel and Gurnemanz (Parsifal), Fasolt and Fafner (Das Rheingold), Hunding (Die Walküre), Fafner (Siegfried), Hagen (Götterdämmerung), Boris (Lady Macbeth von Mzensk), Ochs (Rosenkavalier), Morosus (Schweigsame Frau), Landgraf (Tannhäuser), Claggart (Billy Budd), Sarastro (Zauberflöte). In 1996 he became an Austrian Kammersänger and an Honorary Member of the Vienna State Opera in 1999.
