Wolfgang Koch is regarded as one of the most significant dramatic baritones in the operatic world. In the 2024/25 season, he will appear as Kurwenal at the San Francisco Opera and as Borromeo at the Vienna State Opera. At the Bavarian State Opera, he will make his role debuts as Alfio and Tonio, while also reprising his roles as the Forester (The Cunning Little Vixen) and Telramund.

His repertoire includes the major baritone roles of the German and Italian canon. He has performed Wotan/Wanderer at the Bayreuth Festival and the Bavarian State Opera, Hans Sachs at the Munich Opera Festival, and Amfortas and Klingsor in productions in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, and the Salzburg Easter Festival. In 2019, he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Scarpia.

He has portrayed Falstaff to great acclaim at both the Bavarian State Opera and the Vienna State Opera. He performed Dallapiccola's Il prigioniero under the baton of Kirill Petrenko with the Berlin Philharmonic. The role of Barak has taken him to Vienna, Baden-Baden, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, and the Salzburg Festival.

The Bavarian Kammersänger has also enjoyed success at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Paris Opéra, the Theater an der Wien, as well as in Frankfurt and Tokyo.
