Cyril Teste
Cyril Teste was initially interested in visual arts before turning to theater and studying at the École Régionale d'Acteurs de Cannes and the Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique in Paris. In 2000, he co-founded Collectif MxM, of which he is artistic director. As a director, Cyril Teste prefers to work with authors whose texts break dramatic codes and give space to the image, such as Patrick Bouvet or Falk Richter, with whom he shares a vision of political theater. Themes such as the virtualization of the real and the loss of the self play a role. Since 2011, Cyril Teste and the Collectif MxM have been working with the concept of cinematic performance, in which a film is realized before the eyes of the audience, from shooting to editing to the final mix. Among others, Nobody (2013, after Falk Richter) and Festen (2017, after Thomas Vinterberg) were made according to this principle. With Hamlet (Ambroise Thomas), Teste staged his first opera at the Opéra Comique in Paris in 2018, followed by Beethoven's Fidelio there in 2021.
