Prof. Thomas Lang

Prof. Thomas Lang was born in Stuttgart and studied school music, singing, conducting and musicology at the conservatory of his hometown and at the University of Tübingen. From 1988 to 1999 he was engaged as choral director and Kapellmeister at the Theater der Hansestadt Lübeck. This was followed by an engagement as choral director at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, before he was appointed to the same position at the Vienna State Opera in 2006.

Here he was able to further expand his repertoire, which spans opera and concert literature and includes more than two hundred works. Guest appearances have taken him across Europe to Korea, Japan and the USA. From 2006 to 2011 he was choir director of the Salzburg Festival. His work is documented on numerous recordings. Thomas Lang regularly works with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Bertrand de Billy, Zubin Metha, Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Franz Welser-Möst.
