Martin Schebesta
Martin Schebesta has been 2nd Choral Director of the Vienna State Opera since 2008. He is responsible for numerous choral rehearsals and premieres at the State Opera, working with renowned conductors such as Alain Altinoglu, Marco Armiliato, Bertrand de Billy, Semyon Bychkov, Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Philippe Jordan, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti or Franz Welser-Möst.
Born in Zwettl, Lower Austria, Martin Schebesta studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. From 1994 he was Kapellmeister of the Vienna Boys' Choir. Numerous tours have taken him not only to European countries but also to Asia, North and South America. Among others, he conducted concerts at the Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Royal Festival Hall London, the Carnegie Hall New York and the Suntory Hall Tokyo. From 2006 - 2010 Martin Schebesta was artistic director of the World Choral Festival held at the Vienna Musikverein. As a guest conductor he collaborates with various choirs and orchestras worldwide.
Since 2014, Martin Schebesta has had an ongoing collaboration with the Taiwan National Choir with regular concerts at the National Concert Hall Taipei.
Since 2016, Martin Schebesta has also been the conductor of the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle, which is composed of the Vienna Boys Choir, members of the Herrenchor of the Vienna State Opera and members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
