András Lukács

Born in Budapest (Hungary). He graduated from the Hungarian Dance Academy. Furthermore he studied at Elmhurst Ballet School in England. From 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the National Hungarian Ballet, in 2000/2001 of Ballett Frankfurt and from 2001 to 2004 he was engaged as Soloist at Lyon Opéra Ballet. In 2004 he returned as Soloist to the National Hungarian Ballet before he joined in 2005, as Demi-soloist, the Ballett der Wiener Staatsoper und Volksoper.

His Viennese repertory comprises Hilarion in Elena Tschernischova’s „Giselle“, Mahdawaja in Vladimir Malakhov’s „Die Bajadere“, Ungarischer Tänzer in Rudolf Nureyev’s „Schwanensee“, Kellner in Roland Petit’s „Die Fledermaus“, Freund in Maurice Béjart’s „Le Concours“, Mercutio in John Cranko’s „Romeo und Julia“, Ungarischer Offizier in Kenneth MacMillan’s „Mayerling“, Spiderman in Gyula Harangozó’s „Der Nussknacker“, Spanien in Renato Zanella’s „Der Nußknacker“, Chinesischer Tanz in Rudolf Nureyev’s "Der Nussknacker", Liebhaber in Ivan Cavallari’s „Tschaikowski Impressionen“, Kellner in „Platzkonzert“ from Gyula Harangozó sen. as well as roles in William Forsythe’s "The Second Detail", Ben van Cauwenbergh’s „Tanzhommage an Queen“, Stephan Thoss' "Blaubarts Geheimnis", Twyla Tharp’s „Variationen über ein Thema von Haydn“, Jiří Kylián’s „Petite Mort“, Jean-Christophe Maillot’s "Vers un Pays Sage", Jorma Elo’s „Glow – Stop“, Helen Pickett’s "Eventide", Thierry Malandain’s „Mozart à 2“, Jiří Bubeníček’s „Le Souffle de l’esprit“, Alexander Ekman’s "Cacti", John Neumeier’s „Le Pavillon d’Armide“ and „Le Sacre“, Pierre Lacotte’s „Coppélia“ as well as in his own choreographies “Duo”, „Connection“ and „In Your Eyes My Face Remains“. He created the role Computervirus in Ivan Cavallari’s „Tschaikowski Impressionen“, Demetrius in Jorma Elo’s „Ein Sommernachtstraum”, in Natalia Horecna’s "Contra Clockwise Witness" (Der Mann) and in Antony McDonald’s and Ashley Page’s "Ein Reigen" (Peter Altenberg). Since 1999 András Lukács realised various choreographies.

For the ballet of the Wiener Staatsoper and Volksoper he created „Tabula rasa“ in 2006 (music: Arvo Pärt) and in 2009 „Duo“ (music: Max Richter), for the Wiener Staatsballett 2012 "Bolero" (music: Maurice Ravel) and 2013 "The White Pas de deux". Furthermore „Connection“ and „A Letter to Martha Graham“ (music: Michael Nyman) as well as „Whirling“ and „In Your Eyes My Face Remains“ (music: Philip Glass) were performed. „Elegie“ (music: Léo Delibes) and „A Letter to Martha Graham“ were performed by the ballet school of the Wiener Staatsoper. With „Connection“ he was represented at Galas in Moskau and Munich. 2014 he was the choreographer of the New Years Concert of the Hungarian National Ballet. On April 28th the premiere of his piece „Movements to Stravinsky“ for the Wiener Staatsballett took place. Lukács’ Pas de deux „Luminous“ (Musik: Max Richter) was premiered on 21 May 2019 with Natascha Mair and Jakob Feyferlik in Ljubljana and in June 2019 at the “Nurejew Gala” in the Wiener Staatsoper.

On August 5th, 2017 András Lukács organized for the „Nordland Musikkfestuke“ a Gala in Bodø (Norway) where also two of his own pieces, Whirling-Pas de deux and Duo, have been danced by members of the Wiener Staatsballett.
