Paolo Rumetz is from Trieste and began studying voice in his home town. He pursued his studies in Munich with Josef Metternich and in Mantua. After his debut in  »Ariadne auf Naxos« in 1988 at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, he has sung at all the major Italian opera houses, such as Venice’s Teatro La Fenice, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Carlo Felica in Genua, Bologna’s Teatro Communale, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro dell’ Opera in Rome and the Arena at Verona. He also appeared as a guest at numerous international opera houses, including among many others in London, Prague, Zurich, Paris, Salzburg, Zagreb, Barcelona, Lisbon, Tokyo, Tel Aviv and Berlin. His repertoire includes many baritone roles in the Italian, French and German fach, including  »Così fan tutte«, »Le nozze di Figaro«, »La cenerentola«, »Il turco in Italia«, »L’italiana in Algeri«, »L’elisir d’amore«, »Lucia di Lammermoor«, »Un giorno di regno«, »La traviata«, »Macbeth«, »Rigoletto«, »Il trovatore«, »Simon Boccanegra«, »Aïda«, »Falstaff«, »Lohengrin«, »Tosca«, »La Bohème«, »Madama Butterfly«, »Gianni Schicchi«, »Werther«, »Don Quichotte«, »Fedora«, »I Quattro Rusteghi«, »Pagliacci«, »La belle Hélène«, »Tales of Hoffmann«, and  »Oceàna«. In recent seasons, he has sung in  »Falstaff« in Salzburg, Bologna and Zurich, »L’elisir d’amore« at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, »Il trovatore« in Rijeka, »La forza del destino« in Modena, Tel Aviv and Zurich, »Don Quichotte« in Trieste, Turin and Cagliari, »Il turco in Italia« in Zurich, Leipzig and at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, »Il segreto di Susanna« in Zurich, »L’italiana in Algeri« in Lisbon, »Il barbiere di Siviglia« in Zurich and Salzburg, »Roberto Devereux« in Trieste and Vienna, »I Quattro Rusteghi« in Toulouse and Zurich, »Madama Butterfly« at the Teatro della Scala in Milan and in Seoul, »Aïda« in Trieste, »La traviata« at the Festival of Ljubljana, »La Bohème« and »Pagliacci« in Verona, »L’elisir d’amore« and Otello in Trieste, »Aïda« and  »Simon Boccanegra« in Tokyo, »La Wally« and Gioconda in St. Gallen. Since the 2013 season, Paolo Rumetz has been a member of the Wiener Staatsoper ensemble, where his appearances to date include »L‘elisir d‘amore«, »La cenerentola«, »Roberto Devereux«, »Il barbiere di Siviglia«, »L'italiana in Algeri«, »The Cunning Little Vixen«, »Andrea Chénier«, »Tosca« and  »Rigoletto«. He also appeared as a guest artist in Gounod’s »Faust« at the Salzburg Festival and in the title role in »Rigoletto« at Klosterneuburg and Staatsoper Hannover. In 2016 he sang Hidraot in Gluck’s »Armide«, conducted by Marc Minkowski, and the title role in »Falstaff«, conducted by Zubin Mehta. In 2017/18 he sang Germont in »La traviata« at Wiener Staatsoper and Klagenfurt, and Renato in »Un ballo in maschera« at the Wiener Staatsoper and in Chemnitz. After appearing in the Oderzo Summer Festival as Count Luna in »Il trovatore«, he sang Alfio, Count Luna and Sharpless at the Wiener Staatsoper.
