Norbert Ernst
Vienna-born tenor Norbert Ernst saved in early 2023 the premiere and several other performances as Tannhäuser at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London with great success. He jumped in for concerts as Tristan in Tristan and Isolde at Slovak Philharmonie in Bratislava and earned highly acclaimed reviews. He was able to continue the series of important role debuts of 2021 with Tristan in Tristan und Isolde at the Wiener Kammeroper and Walter von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Tokyo in 2022 with the title role of Tannhäuser at the opera in Wuppertal and Siegmund in Valencia and celebrated his operatic debut with Ariadne auf Naxos at the Scala in Milan. In season 2022/23 he had great success as Prince Schiskij in the much acclaimed opening premiere of Boris Godunov at La Scala in Milan. He stepped in as a last-minute „savior" at the Vienna State Opera as Paul in Die tote Stadt highly acclaimed by both audience and press. In previous years he had significantly expanded his repertoire with Lohengrin in Marseille and Montpellier, Paul in Die tote Stadt in Kiel and Florestan in Fidelio in Sankt Gallen. He interpreted his signature role of the Rheingold-Loge at leading houses such as the Vienna State Opera, the Opéra national de Paris, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and made his acclaimed debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York with this role. With his successful interpretation of Loge im Rheingold he celebrated his tenth anniversary as a soloist at the Bayreuth Festival in 2014. Norbert Ernst is also a guest at major international festivals such as Savonlinna Finland Opera Festival and Salzburg Festival. Norbert Ernst is guest of most important opera houses, such as Vienna, Munich, New York, Barcelona, Geneva, Berlin, Paris, London, Hamburg, Tokyo and Amsterdam. As a Lieder and concert singer, Norbert Ernst performes at the Wiener Musikverein, Carnegie Hall New York, Philharmonie de Paris, Suntory Hall and Bunka Kaikan Tokyo, Brucknerhaus Linz, Wiener Konzerthaus, Philharmonie am Gasteig Munich, Philharmonie Berlin and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with works from the entire great oratorio literature from Bach's Passions to Mahler's Lied von der Erde. Norbert Ernst studied with Gerd Fussi at the Josef Matthias Hauer Conservatory in Wiener Neustadt and with Robert Holl and Charles Spencer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He deepened his studies in master classes with Walter Berry and Kurt Equiluz.
