Krysztina Winkel

Born in Aachen, she studied at the Ruhr University in Bochum. After working as a freelance theater pedagogue and dramaturg at Schauspiel Essen, Kulturamt Duisburg and Studio Musikfabrik Cologne, among others, Krysztina Winkel was employed as a music theater pedagogue at Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf-Duisburg from 2014 to 2018, where she was responsible for the development of inclusive community productions and interdisciplinary youth club formats, among other things. In 2018, Krysztina moved to England, completed her Master's degree in Arts, Enterprise and Development at the University of Warwick and in 2019 was hired as a Community Producer at Belgrade Theatre Coventry (UK). Other research and community theater programs also took her to Zambia, Italy and Iraqi-Kurdistan. Since 2020 Krysztina Winkel is Steering Committee Member of RESEO - The European Network for Opera, Music and Dance Education, which promotes European exchange and cooperation in the field of children's and youth theater/dance between institutions, independent artists/collectives and festivals, and has a teaching position at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Since 2020, Krysztina Winkel has headed the mediation and outreach department of the Vienna State Opera. Here she has since staged participatory play developments and music theater performances such as Der letzte Tag (Young Audiences Music Award in the category Best Participatory Project 2021), Utoperas (Nominee FEDORA EDUCATION Prize 2021) and The Start Up. The youth opera Tschick is Krysztina Winkel's directorial debut in the big house at the Vienna State Opera.
