Federica Lombardi

The young Italian soprano Federica Lombardi is one of the most popular sopranos of her generation, particularly for the great Mozart roles. She studied at the Liceo Musicale Angelo Massini in Forlì. In 2015/16 she was a member of the prominent Accademia di Perfezionamento per Cantanti Lirici at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala and participated in the Young Singers Project at the 2015 Salzburg Festival. She is a two-time winner of the international AsLiCo cometition in Como and has won prizes at other international competitions. In 2019 she sang Elettra in »Idomeneo« for the first time at the Teatro alla Scala, following this with her début as Donna Elvira in »Don Giovanni« on a tour with Teodor Currentzi which included Lucerne and Vienna, and in a new production of »Don Giovanni« at Hamburg State Opera. Major débuts at leading houses will follow in 2021: she will sing the Contessa in »Le nozze di Figaro« at the Chicago Lyric Opera, and Donna Elvira in »Don Giovanni« at the Teatro Real in Madrid. She will make guest appearances as Donna Anna in »Don Giovanni« and Mimì in »La Bohème« in New York, and a the Contessa in »Le nozze di Figaro« in Munich. In 2021/22 she will début at Amsterdam Opera as Desdemona in a new production of »Otello« and at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as the Contessa in »Le nozze di Figaro« with Antonio Pappano conducting; her schedule for autumn 2022 includes new productions of »Simon Boccanegra« in Liège and Verdi’s »Il Corsaro« at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala. Most recently she débuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Donna Alvira in »Don Giovanni« and at the Bavarian State Opera, the Teatro Regio di Torino and the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma as Fiordiligi in »Così fan tutte«. She sang Donna Anna in »Don Giovanni« as a guest at Cologne Opera and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and sang Micaëla in »Carmen« in Bangkok as a guest with the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, conducted by Zubin Mehta. The international press praised to the skies her interpretation of the Contessa in »Le nozze di Figaro« in both an innovative and modernistic production by Graham Vick in Rome and a new production at the Bavarian State Opera by Christof Loy. In early 2017 she made her lauded début in the title role of Donizetti’s »Anna Bolena« at the Teatro alla Scala under Ion Marin, returning later as Musetta in Franco Zeffirelli’s famous production of »La Bohème«. Her recording of Desdemona in »Otello« under Antonio Pappano with Jonas Kaufmann in the title role appeared in March 2020. Federica Lombardi is also much in demand as a concert artist. So far, she has only sung Donna Elvira in »Don Giovanni« at the Wiener Staatsoper.
