RENÉ BARBERA studied in Chicago and completed San Francisco Opera’s Merola Opera Program and Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artist Program. He won the first prize in Plácido Domingo’s Operalia competition in 2011 (in the opera and zarzuela categories, and he also received the audience prize). In recent years, he has performed as Lindoro in L’italiana in Algeri at the Metropolitan Opera in New York; as Alfredo in La traviata in Palermo; as Don Ramiro in La cenerentola, Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia and as Iopas in Les Troyens in San Francisco; as Don Ramiro at Seattle Opera und Los Angeles Opera; as Ernesto (Don Pasquale) at Lyric Opera of Chicago; as Tonio in La Fille du régiment at Greensboro Opera and in Zurich; as Almaviva at Los Angeles Opera; as Narciso in Il turco in Italia at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro; as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at Deutsche Oper Berlin; as Ernesto at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, as Ramiro at Bayerische Staatsoper, as Arturo in I puritani in Stuttgart, as Titus in La clemenza di Tito in Valencia, and as Almaviva in Paris.
