OPERA FOYER
On December 9, 2020, the Opera Foyer opened in the Vienna State Opera, a modern visitor center with ticket sales, store and café. At the same time, the Bundestheater box offices will move from their previous location at Operngasse 2 to the Opera Foyer of the Vienna State Opera (Opernring 2 / Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz).
The commission for the realization of the visitor center was awarded to BWM Architekten by the Bundestheater-Holding in 2019. The office emerged as the winner of an architectural competition. The interior design, which takes into account the original architecture of the Vienna State Opera as well as the changes in the spirit of the 1950s, was produced by the workshops of ART before ART Theaterservice.
»We are pleased that the Vienna State Opera will now become even more of a meeting place during the day. We already have up to 280,000 guests per season who take part in our tours. The newly built café, the first State Opera-owned store, the cozy reading corners and, of course, the Federal Theater box offices are a further invitation to visit us. The opening of the house, the constant dialogue and exchange with our audience and all interested parties is of great concern to us as the new management. The »Opera Foyer« is another important step in this direction,« says Petra Bohuslav, Commercial Director of the Vienna State Opera.
