REOPENING MAY 19

What you should know for attending a performance or a guided tour!

Are tickets still personalized?
Yes, they are. The name of the person who will be sitting in that seat must be printed on the tickets. At the entrance, the name will be checked by presenting an ID. Changes (e.g. another accompanying person) can be made subsequently online or at the Bundestheater box offices, and changes at short notice can also be made at the help desk in the vestibule.

What do I need to bring with me to attend a performance?
Upon entering the building, you must show a personalized ticket and one of the following: a negative COVID-19 test, proof of recovery from COVID-19 or proof of vaccination.

A negative COVID-19 test means the presentation of a self-test with official confirmation not older than 24 hours, an antigen test from an official agency not older than 48 hours, or a PCR test from an official agency not older than 72 hours.
Proof of recovery from COVID-19 meansthe presentation of a medical certificate or a certificate of segregation confirming that the COVID 19 disease was overcome no longer than 6 months ago or the presentation of an antibody certificate no older than 3 months. Furthermore, a vaccination is valid if at least 21 days before the vaccination there was a positive COVID 19 result or before the vaccination there was an antibody proof, whereby the vaccination must not be older than 9 months.  In this case, evidence must be provided for the vaccination as well as for the disease overcome or the antibody result.
Proof of vaccination means that the first COVID-19 vaccination must have been given as long as 22 days ago, but no longer than 3 months ago. In case of a second vaccination, this period is extended to 9 months.

Since checking all these admission documents takes a little time, it is recommended to come as early as possible. Admission is one hour before the start of the performance.

Do children also need a test?
No. A negative COVID-19 test for children is not required until they are 10 years old.

Masks are compulsory
In the entire building of the Vienna State Opera, visitors over the age of 14 are required to wear an FFP2 mask. This also applies during the performance. If there are reasons why an FFP2 mask cannot be worn (e.g.: pregnant women), a medical certificate must be presented.

Do children also have to wear an FFP2 mask?
Children up to the age of 6 do not need to wear a mask at all. Children from 6-13 years of age are required to wear a mouth-nose protection. They are not required to wear FFP2 masks.

Will our buffets be open during the breaks?
Yes, the buffets will be open. However, the same rules for catering apply here: fixed seating! It is therefore only possible to visit the buffet by making a reservation in advance (Gerstner app).

What are the spacing rules in the hall?
Bookings for individuals or groups of visitors are possible for a maximum of four seats. There is one free seat between each individual or group of visitors.

What is the maximum number of seats we are allowed to sell?
We are allowed to offer half the seating capacity. This corresponds to exactly 940 seats - including the seated standing room.

Is there a test facility at the Vienna State Opera?
In principle, we assume that our audience will take the chance of the numerous public testing opportunities. However, if there is a need for testing, our partner, laboratory Doz. DDr. Stefan Mustafa, has set up a testing facility in the Operngasse, directly next to the Vienna State Opera. This test container will be open Monday-Sunday from 10:00-19:00 starting May 19. Antigen tests and PCR tests are available. The antigen tests cost €9.90 for opera visitors who present their personalized ticket (please have your ID ready!), and €19.90 for all other customers. The result is available after only 15 minutes and is valid as an admission test to the opera. In addition, there is the possibility to have a real-time PCR test performed by a medical specialist for €79. This result is obtained after a few hours, either on the same calendar day, or at the latest the next day in the morning.
