PREMIERE OF »FAUST« AT THE VIENNA STATE OPERA
The Vienna State Opera continues its series of premieres: on 29 April 2021 the production of Charles Gounod's Faust by Frank Castorf will be streamed and broadcasted via TV and Radio.
Castorf makes his debut at the Vienna State Opera with this production: Paris of Faust's world premiere meets Paris of 1960. By using cinematic means such as cuts and dissolves a few steps through a miniature of Paris (Set designer: Aleksandar Denić) creates the impression of chases, leaps in time or dreams (costumes: Adriana Braga-Peretzki). At the same time, Castorf finishes Gounod's stories via video installations.
The premiere on April 29 will be streamed live from 6 p.m. on play.wiener-staatsoper.at and on myfidelio.at. Radio Ö1 will be broadcasted on May 1 from 7.30 p.m. and ORF III will broadcast the production introduced by »Kulissengespräche mit Barbara Rett« at 8 p.m. Faust will be broadcasted on May 9 from 8.15 p.m. as part of »Wir spielen für Österreich« on ORF III.
The premiere production is conducted by Bertrand de Billy, who has returned to the State Opera this season and has already directed several important productions, such as the revival of the French Don Carlos or Tosca with Anna Netrebko or Werther with Piotr Beczała (just for camera during the shutdown).
The cast of singers is top-class: Juan Diego Flórez makes his staged role debut in Faust with this production. Nicole Car, who made her house debut as Tatyana in the October premiere of Eugene Onegin, will sing Marguerite for the first time. Méphistophélès is embodied by the promising young Polish bass Adam Palka, who makes his house debut - as does Étienne Dupuis as Valentin.
