La Fille mal gardée - From the studio

On the occasion of the International Dance Day we give you an insight to our work on Frederick Ashton's »La Fille mal gardée«. Enjoy the dancers of the Wiener Staatsballett! The International Dance Day is celebrated each year since 1982 on Jean Georges Noverre's (1727–1810) birthday. He is seen as the »father« of the classical ballet who also left his footprints in Vienna. As director of empress Maria Theresia's founded »Theatral-Tanzschule« he built the basis for the first ballet education in Vienna between 1771 and 1774.
