»La bohème« and »Peer Gynt« on »Staatsopern-Mittwoch« at Vienna's Rathausplatz

We are delighted to share with you today the program for the next two »Staatsopern-Mittwoch« (i.e. every Wednesday the Vienna State Opera provides the programme) events at the Film Festival on Vienna's Rathausplatz.

PROGRAMME

Wednesday, 19 July:
Peer Gynt (2019) Ballet
Edvard Grieg – Edward Clug
Start: 9.15 p.m.

In this narrative ballet, choreographer Edward Clug combines the two different versions of Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg and Henrik Ibsen into one piece. Clug portrays the fabulous adventures of the boastful peasant boy who aspires to world domination, with the help of the impressive set design and costume design by Marko Japelij and Leo Kulaš. The result is »magical scenes that have never been seen in conventional ballet« (Kurier). The performance features dancers such as Jakob Feyferlik, Alice Firenze, Eno Peci, Zsolt Török, and other members of the Vienna State Ballet. Conducting the orchestra is Simon Hewett.


Wednesday, 26 July:
La bohème (2022)
Giacomo Puccini
Start: 9.30 p.m.

Puccini's tragic masterpiece, in the classic staging by Franco Zeffirelli, and featuring an absolutely stellar cast: Anna Netrebko as Mimi, Vittorio Grioglo as her Rodolfo, and Günther Groissböck and George Petean shining as Bohemians. Conducting the orchestra is Bertrand de Billy.
