CONCEPT OF THE BALLETTAKADEMIE

The Vienna State Opera Ballet School is considered the first address for ballet education in Austria. It offers comprehensive practical and theoretical stage dance training, with special emphasis on the physical and emotional well-being of the students.

The Ballettakademie accepts students (10 - 18 years old) from Austria and abroad.

In the seven ballet studios named after great personalities of Viennese dance history - Franz Hilverding, Jean Georges Noverre, Fanny Elssler, Grete Wiesenthal, Erika Hanka, Willy Dirtl and Rudolf Nurejew – where currently 136 students between the ages of 10 and 18 are being trained.

An important aspect of the training is the participation of the ballet students in ballet and opera performances of the Vienna State Opera and the Volksoper Wien. Additionally, the Ballettakademie gives a performance in the Vienna State Opera at the end of every year, with excerpts from the school program and choreographies created especially for this occasion. It has also become a tradition for the students to perform at the opening of the Vienna Opera Ball and at the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's Concert.
