MARCELO ÁLVAREZ is considered to the most important tenors in the world. He was born on the 27th February 1962 in the Argentinian town of Cordoba where he later went on to study music. In 1995, he moved to Europe where, in the same year, he made his debut as Elvino in La Sonnambula in La Fenice in Venice. Soon after, he took up the role of Alfredo (La traviata) in some of the most prestigious opera houses such as the Scala and the Met, and in London and Tokyo. Performances followed in houses such as ROH Covent Garden, Bayerischen Staatsoper, Zurich Opera, Paris Opera, Palau de les Art in Valencia, the Lyric Opera Chicago, Teatro Real in Madrid, in Verona, the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Further notable opera performances include Rigoletto, Linda di Chamounix, Tosca, Il trovatore, Aida, Andrea Chénier, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Fille du régiment, Puritani, Werther and Les Contes d'Hoffmann, La gioconda, Un ballo in maschera, Luisa Miller, Carmen, Andréa Chénier, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Turandot.

There are a great number of video and audio recordings documenting his artistic life and performances. He made his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in 1998 as Alfredo and continued to sing as Rodolfo, Duca, Romeo, Werther and Cavaradossi.
